Where Stories Came Alive: A Literary Week to Remember at Ruh, an International School in Coimbatore

Literature has the power to open doors to imagination, empathy, and critical thinking. During our recent Literary Fest and Literary Week celebrations, the campus transformed into a vibrant hub of stories, ideas, and creative expression. These thoughtfully curated experiences reflected our commitment to nurturing a deep love for reading, storytelling, and dialogue among learners of all ages.

As one of the leading international schools in Coimbatore, we believe that meaningful literary engagement begins early. This belief came alive during a delightful storytelling session with author and educationist Merlyn Franklin, who spent time with our Early Years learners. Reading aloud from her own book, she instantly connected with the children through expressive narration and warm interactions. Young listeners sat captivated, responding with laughter, curiosity, and quiet wonder as the story unfolded. The session gently encouraged imagination and laid the foundation for a lifelong relationship with books.

The magic of storytelling continued with an unforgettable puppet performance by renowned storyteller and performer Shreedevi Sunil. Her session transported young Ruh’lers into a world of Indian folklore and cultural heritage. Through vibrant puppetry and engaging narration, stories came alive in a way that was both entertaining and deeply enriching. The children experienced firsthand how stories can preserve tradition, spark creativity, and connect us to our roots.

Adding another meaningful layer to our celebrations was an inspiring session led by Shobha Viswanath, co-founder and Publishing Director of Karadi Tales. Her storytelling session was a rich blend of expressive narration, thoughtful interaction, and insight into the world of publishing and social impact. Learners explored how stories shape values, ideas, and imagination, while also understanding the role of storytelling in creating meaningful change. The session encouraged children to listen deeply, think creatively, and appreciate the power of language and ideas.

Beyond storytelling, Literary Week also celebrated the art of dialogue and critical thinking. The RAIS Literary Debate, hosted by our K12 Campus, brought together students from various RAIS member schools. This collaborative platform encouraged learners to research, articulate their thoughts confidently, and engage respectfully with diverse viewpoints. The experience highlighted learning through shared dialogue rather than competition, helping students grow both academically and personally.

The collective energy of author visits, storytelling sessions, performances, and debates made our Literary Week truly memorable. Classrooms became spaces of curiosity and creativity, where learners were encouraged to ask questions, share perspectives, and express themselves with confidence. These experiences reflect what distinguishes the best international schools in Coimbatore: a focus on holistic learning that blends academic excellence with creativity, cultural awareness, and strong communication skills.

Our Literary Fest was not just a celebration of books, but a celebration of voices, ideas, and young minds discovering the joy of stories. It reaffirmed our belief that literature is a powerful tool for shaping thoughtful, confident, and compassionate global citizens.
